Unabated cases of communal riots, enhanced tones regarding building of Rama Temple in Ayodhya and the stir in Parliament caused by ghar wapsi abhiyan aside, the Delhi Minority Morcha is targeting one lakh new members from the Minority Community by 15th of January, 2015.
Delhi Minority Morcha, headed by suave and hardworking leader Atif Rasheed, is presently carrying out an aggressive membership drive, which has already resulted in more than 35000 new members, more than three-fourth of whom belong to the Minority Community. With Assembly Elections in Delhi stipulated any time in February, BJP is going all out to woo new members and has set 15th January as the deadline to achieve the membership target. The last date for membership across the country is 15th March, 2015.
Atif Rasheed informs that camps have been organized in various areas dominated by the Minority Community. A camp was set up outside the Fatehpuri mosque on Friday to attract the Muslims coming for Friday prayer. Likewise, camps were put up outside churches on Sunday to attract the crowd coming for mass. A membership drive was taken up in the vicinity of Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin while previous Friday saw a camp put up outside the Jama Masjid mosque. Membership drive inside universities such as Jamia Millia Islamia and Jamia Hamdard too have been planned. Minority-dominated population including areas like Mustafabad and Seelampur too are being targeted.
Tells Atif Rasheed: “BJP has kept 21st December as the date from which a large scale exercise will be undertaken on national level to target those areas which have traditionally not been voting for the BJP. This is an ambitious program initiated by BJP National President Amit Shah. Since Muslims have not really come to the Muslim fold until now, BJP’s National President’s new directive is an indicator that for the Muslims who kept a distance from BJP until now, there is an opportunity to come close to BJP through taking the membership.”
Delhi unit of BJP’s Minority Morcha plans to run a door-to-door membership drive in all minority-dominated areas in the city. “We have fixed a target of one lakh until 15th of January, out of which we have already got more than 35000 members,” tells Rasheed.
